Our Practice
Shenandoah Valley residents and businesses have trusted their legal matters to Litten & Sipe or its ancestors since 1877. Local businesses still come to Litten & Sipe with their commercial and employment matters. Local citizens still trust the firm with their wills and estate planning, their real estate transactions, and their personal litigation--we've been handling automobile cases since the advent of the automobile.

Of course some things have changed since 1877. We're now a mid-size, AV-rated firm, capable of taking on a simple will or taking on the world. We're a leader in legal technology, and we use that expertise for the benefit of our clients. We are not--and will never be--one of those huge law factories where the billable hour reigns supreme over common sense and common courtesy. On the other hand, we're large enough and talented enough to handle the toughest cases anywhere.
Our practice consists of four core areas:
  • Civil Litigation. Our litigators undertake commercial, governmental, and personal litigation. We handle trials and appeals in both state and federal courts. Our practice includes both defense and plaintiffs' cases.
  • Our Commercial & Transactional group handles a wide variety of transactions, ranging from residential real estate to mergers and acquisitions. We assist in the formation of businesses, but the more important part of our work is the ongoing counsel we provide to businesses as they face ever-tougher issues.
  • Local Government Law. We are general counsel for two municipalities, a county, a municipal electric utility, and a sewage treatment utility. Additionally, we represent other governmental units from time to time as our special skills are needed. Using the expertise we've gained as governmental attorneys, we often represent landowners who have zoning disputes with their own local governments.
  • Our Trusts & Estates practice is extremely diverse, ranging from the simplest of wills for families "just starting out" to complex estate planning for those with significant assets to protect. We also have considerable expertise in estate administration.
Our lawyers concentrate in one or two of these core areas, but we don't "specialize." Each of us is a well-rounded lawyer who can see all facets of a case.
